9 Day Kruger Park Open Vehicle Safaris

Day 1: Phalaborwa to Shingwedzi


You will be collected by your guide from Phalaborwa Airport not later than 12h00pm and make your way in your open safari vehicle through the Phalaborwa Gate and on towards Shingwedzi Camp. Shingwedzi lies in the heart of the Northern Region. The Northern Kruger is elephant country, where you are most likely to encounter these large beasts. Roan Antelope live in small herds of three to ten and are one of Kruger's rarest game species. We arrive at Shingwedzi camp late afternoon in time for check in and to relax before dinner is served in the restaurant at 19h00pm.


Day 2: Shingwedzi (B/D)


After an early morning wakeup call by your guide and a refreshing cup of tea or coffee with rusks we depart from Shingwedzi on your morning game drive making our way to Punda Maria for breakfast. The Punda Maria Camp was originally established in 1919 as a post from which to monitor ivory poachers and was converted into a tourist camp in the mid 1930's. En-route you have the opportunity of spotting large packs of Wild Dogs and large herds of Eland one of our largest antelope species. We return to camp mid afternoon for a siesta and time to relax or browse the the curio shop. Dinner is served in the restaurant at 19h00pm.


Day 3: Shingwedzi to Letaba (B/D)


Once again we depart from camp early after tea/coffee and rusks and make our way towards the camp of Mopani for breakfast. Mopani camp is situated on the banks of the Pioneer dam which has large pods of hippo which can be viewed from the deck. After breakfast we continue our drive down towards the camp of Letaba which is the gateway to the Northern Region. Arriving mid-day you may spend the afternoon visiting the Elephant Hall an impressive collection of record elephant tusks which are housed in the Goldfields Environmental centre or sit and relax along the Letaba River watching elephant and antelope coming down for a drink or photograph the resident bushbuck as they wander between your chalets. Dinner will be served once again at 19h00pm in the restaurant.


Day 4: Letaba (B/D)


Same as day 3, except for departure on a sunset safari at 17h00pm, returning to camp at 20h00pm for dinner.


Day 5: Letaba to Satara (B/D)


This morning at 06h00am we depart from Letaba after Tea/Coffee and rusks and make our way to the camp of Olifants for breakfast, en-route hoping to spot either a leopard on the prowl or a lion on a kill. You will also be able to spot Giraffe enjoying the early morning coolness as they browse along the way. After breakfast and time to view the majestic views of the Olifants River as it flows by the camp, we make our way on towards the central region of the park and the camp of Satara. The central area of the Kruger includes some of the best scenery in the park with the craggy Lebombo mountains rearing up in the east forming a solid natural boundary with Mozambique. Satara camp boasts wide open spaces for herds of Wildebeest, Buffalo and Zebra with tall trees and colorful birdlife and contains and exceptionally high density of Lion due to the abundance of game. We arrive early afternoon to check in to camp and the rest of the afternoon is at leisure to enjoy either browsing in the curio shop or relaxing by the pool.


Day 6: Satara (B/D)


Today after tea/coffee and rusks we explore the central region of the park returning to Satara for breakfast and visiting some of the waterholes in the area.


Day 7: Satara to Skukuza (B/D)


After an early morning cuppa we depart from Satara and make our way to the picnic spot of Tshokwane for breakfast. This is an unfenced area where you may view and abundance of birdlife while enjoying your breakfast in the open. After breakfast, we make our way along the H10 towards the camp of Lower Sabi for lunch. Here you have the opportunity to view herds of elephant, buffalo, Rhino, Zebra and Wildebeest with the possibility of Lion on the prowl. After lunch we continue along the Sabi River and make our way on towards the camp of Skukuza which is home for the next two evenings. Skukuza is the largest camp in the Kruger National park and boasts vast numbers of wildlife including black and white Rhino as well as Lion and Leopard. Dinner will be served in the Selati Restaurant at 19h00pm.


Day 8: Skukuza (B/D)


We explore the Southern side of the Kruger stopping for breakfast at one of the many picnic areas found on this side of the Kruger. We also have chance to stop off at either Pretoriukop or Bergendal for lunch before returning to Skukuza late afternoon. This evening as it is your last night your guide will prepare a Traditional South African Barbeque for you under the African Sky!


Day 9: Skukuza – Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport or OR Tambo International in Johannesburg.


After breakfast we depart from the Kruger National Park at 10h30am and either make our way back to Nelspruit for you to be able to connect with your flight back to Johannesburg or take a road trip back to Johannesburg in an air-conditioned shuttle bus back to the OR Tambo International Airport. Arrival back at OR Tambo is either 15h30pm or 18h00pm.

Our Kruger Park Open Vehicle Safaris are carried out with a ' Ranger' guide and not with just a tour guide or a driver guide, departing on any day that suits you.


As a minimum we require the following information with your email:

C) Number of people - minimum 2 people guarantees departure on our nine day safari.
D) Required departure date - any day that suits you.
E) Collection & drop off requirements - hotel or flight details can be provided after we have confirmed safari availability.


Price Information 
All prices are in South Africa Rand (ZAR). VAT is included.
Our Kruger Park Open Vehicle Safaris cater for small groups, families and big private groups, departing with a minimum of 2 people. 
Each open vehicle safari is carried out with no more than 10 people per open vehicle. You are assured of enjoying more of a personal, private safari. For single travelers we would add to any existing tour if possible.
Children under twelve (12) are charged half price. We include a door-to-door collection and drop off service at your hotel or from the airport. All safaris are conducted in English.
